About our survey contributors
The Pavek
Museum of Broadcasting has a
tremendous collection of antique radios and other broadcasting memorabilia
including TV. Even an old time radio studio. It's amazing to see how many
companies were making radios years ago. The museum is located in St. Louis Park,
Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays for in
person visits. Click on the link to it. Many
thanks to the Pavek Museum for allowing me to copy a number of surveys for use
on this site.
Also thanks to Scott Stevens, Twin Cities radio personality who has worked at KDWB, WWTC, KCHK and a major oldies station. Scott has a huge collection of 45's and was known for his "Weird and Unusual" segments on the air as well as being a fun personality.
MUST READING!!! "Fiasco At 1280 - The Rise and Hard Fall of a Twin Cities Radio Station" by Jeff R. Lonto. An account of what happened at this AM'er which did an oldies format twice during the 1980's and some of the other including strange formats they tried along with the politics that went with it. WWTC became the flagship station of "Radio Ahhs" and is now owned by religious broadcaster Salem, now doing a talk format and known as "The Patriot". Jeff also is the publisher under his own Studio Z 7 name so he can call it as he sees it. Even if you don't live in the Twin Cities most in radio can relate to what he tells. Order direct: $10.95 per copy plus $2.62 shipping (Minnesota residents add 6.5% sales tax) to: Studio Z-7 Publishing, 813 Marshall St. NE, Minneapolis, MN. 55413-1816. He's also put out a book on "Grain Belt" beer, a local brand. E-mail for info: STUDIOZ7@aol.com . NOW!!! Check out J.R.'s new website at http://www.studioz-7.com/ or click on photo of his book "Fiasco" below. Info on GB beer too.
Thanks to Jim Oldsberg, editor and publisher of "Lost And Found" Magazine. This very professionally done "zine" is more like an 8 1/2"x 11" softcover book. Covers upper midwest Rock 'n Rollers of the 1960's with a primary focus on Minnesota performers. Even some 1950's Doo-Wop. More info: Lost & Found, P.O. Box 44002, Eden Prairie, MN. 55344.
Also, the late Jim (Hymie) Peterson.
